Replace with "flogging"?

Some avid readers pointed out that I tend to have a lot of misspellings in my blog posts. Clearly some people have too much time on their hands.

I attribute some amount of that perception to wierd affectations of mine. For example, I prefer "behaviour" to "behavior" and "hilite" to "hilight"; I also enjoy using semi-colons (and overusing parenthetical comments). But mostly I'd guess its because I never use a spell checker :)

I did use the spell checker provided by my blogging tool early on, but I stopped as soon as I noticed that "blogging" wasn't in its dictionary. It suggested I use the term "flogging" instead.

Perhaps it was trying to tell me something.

In any case, I suppose I could use a word processor, or simply train the aformentioned spell checker with the words that I tend to use.

Honestly though, when it comes to flogging, I'm OK with a being a tad sloppy. My wife calls it "laziness"; I tend to think of it as "economy of motion".

  3. I wouldn't worry so much about spelling eh? This classic shows up in my SPAM folder at least once a year:

"Aoccdrnig to rscheearch at an Elingsh uinervtisy, it deosn't mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, olny taht the frist and lsat ltteres are at the rghit pcleas. The rset can be a toatl mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit a porbelm. Tihs is bcuseae we do not raed ervey lteter by ilstef, but the wrod as a wlohe."

  5. Sree don't worry about spelling, PR firms and anal retentive people worry about spelling before posting. The content is conveyed, that's the important part.

  6. to corey:

classic indeed, very cool and revealing. thought it was amazing when learning German many years ago that words can just come out almost in random order within a sentence and won't compromise the meaning. But a wrong word in a sentence or a wrong letter in a word will more likely break our minds' ability to recognize familiar patterns.

Talking about tolerating minor variations in a familiar pattern, I am sure common typos today will be accepted spellings in 5-10 years. I doubt anybody reading this blog is lawyer by training(except for corp com which doesn't count) so what's the big deal with a few typos...
